I wake up without purpose. Where is everyone? I walk down the hall in bare feet to my parents’ bedroom and knock. I crack open the door and glance around the corner. I close the door and walk down two sets of stairs to the basement. My feet feel cold on the tile. I step into my brother’s bedroom door, and then into the bathroom, and then back up the staircase. I open the door leading to the garage and notice the cars are gone. I press the black button next to the light switch. The garage door creaks and wakes up the dog, who’s been put to bed in the laundry room. I notice the oil stains on the driveway. No one’s here. Continue reading →
